Simple 'Spells' You Don’t Think Are Witchcraft

You might not call yourself a witch. You might roll your eyes at the word “spell.” But if you’ve ever whispered a wish before blowing out birthday candles, stirred your tea while thinking of something you want to happen, or placed a crystal on your windowsill because it just feels nice there—you’re closer to everyday magic than you think.

 

Magic doesn’t have to be dramatic rituals under a full moon (although, if that’s your vibe, I’m here for it). Sometimes, the simplest acts we do with intention are spells in disguise, weaving small threads of magic into the fabric of daily life.

I have often magically manifested a parking space near where I need to be, and cackle with glee whenever it happens!

 

Here are some simple spells you don’t think are witchcraft, but absolutely are:

Lighting a candle while setting an intention
That moment you light a candle to “focus” while working or to create a calm vibe is a spell. Fire + intention = magic.

Saying a small wish over your tea or coffee
As you stir, think of what you want more of that day—clarity, confidence, ease. Let it dissolve into the warmth you’re about to drink.

Cleaning your space to clear your mind
Sweeping out stale energy as you tidy, opening a window to let fresh air in, shaking out blankets while imagining worries flying away—these are all small rituals that shift energy.

Wearing a piece of jewellery for confidence or protection
You know that ring or necklace you wear on hard days? That’s a talisman. You’ve created it through your intention and repetition.

Writing down what you want to let go of and then ripping it up (or just forgetting about it!)
A simple release ritual. Let it go, physically and energetically.

Speaking kindly to yourself
Affirmations are spells you speak over your life. Words carry power, and the way you talk to yourself can shape your reality.

Putting a crystal in your pocket for the day
You don’t have to “believe” in crystals to acknowledge the power of carrying a small object that reminds you to breathe or feel grounded.

 

Magic is not about elaborate ceremonies unless you want it to be. It’s about intention, presence, and reclaiming small moments of your day to connect with yourself and the world around you.
